Port Coquitlam Lawyer: PoCo Stand Up - BC Supreme Court coming to Port Coquitlam

The Tri-Cities is a growing and beautiful destination in the Lower Mainland. Port Coquitlam (“PoCo”), one of its members, houses the Provincial Court in the area often listening to family and civil matters. Residents sometimes refer to PoCo as the “last city before a bridge” therefore making it a growing, in demand, place to live.

Recently, it was announced that starting April 19th, the PoCo Provincial Court would commence hearing BC Supreme Court cases in civil (over $35,000) and family jurisdictions. As noted in the Tri-City News:

The move comes as the region’s burgeoning population puts greater demand on court resources and services, said a spokesperson for the Ministry of the Attorney General in a press release.

“Prior to this expansion, Tri-Cities residents attended the New Westminster Law Courts for Supreme Court services,” wrote the spokesperson. “This was making timely access to justice difficult in some cases, and the issue was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Before this expansion of services, residents of the Tri-Cities would have to look to the New Westminster Supreme Court for assistance regarding Supreme Court issues.

This is a great deal for our community and more so, the City of Port Coquitlam.

PoCo, stand up!!
