Detective Constable Scott Hyde’s ascension within the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) commenced years before as a prominent member of the 2000 Terry Fox Secondary Men’s Basketball team in Port Coquitlam, BC. His work ethic and naturally gifted athletic abilities made Scott a tremendous force on the basketball court. With his help, the team finished 2nd in the Provincials losing in overtime in the BC Provincial finals. However, it was not only on the Court where he shined; Scott was also a high academic achiever regularly making the Honour Roll at Terry Fox. In short, Scott was a great reflection of his school’s namesake, Terry Fox.

Scott would later take his basketball skills and high academic acumen, achieving great things at Simon Fraser University for the Men’s Team.

This year, Scott was named the 2021 Police Officer of the Year by the VPD. As a Port Coquitlam citizen and son, it is clear that Terry Fox’s memories have instilled great strength and hard work in Scott.

I am proud to call Scott a friend and teammate. More so, I am proud he is protecting my loved ones. Congratulation Scott; keep up the great work!
