Staff Sgt. Raj S. Mander
Tenured and highly regarded police officer, Staff Sgt. Raj S. Mander - formerly of the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) - has recently joined Surrey’s new municipal law enforcement agency. After nearly 15 successful years with the VPD, where he was renowned for his innovation, creativity, and communal policing methods, Staff Sgt. Mander has been hired by the newly formed Surrey Police Services to assist in the Department’s transition from the RCMP to a municipal police force.
Staff Sgt. Raj Mander joins Surrey Police Services!
With the VPD, Staff Sgt. Mander was a two-time recipient of the Lieutenant Governors’ Medal for Meritorious Service which is awarded to an officer who has demonstrated “exemplary performance that enhances the image of police officers in British Columbia” and “who clearly demonstrated that they acted in a manner significantly beyond the standard normally expected”.

He is of South Asian descent, fluent in Punjabi as well as English, and a much needed reflection of Surrey’s community.
Hailing from the City of Port Coquitlam, Staff Sgt. Mander excelled in leadership at Terry Fox Secondary School graduating with a 4.0 GPA and as the Captain of the senior boys’ basketball team. Also a prominent BC High School boys’ basketball player, Staff Sgt. Mander was the starting point guard on the U-17 BC Boys’ Basketball team which was made up of the top 10 players in the Province (including NCAA Division 1 and national teamer, Levon Kendell). Thereafter, Staff Sgt. Mander starred for the Simon Fraser University Men’s Basketball Team (the only NCAA Division 2 team in Canada), as a four-year scholarship player.
Staff Sgt. Mander holds a Bachelors of Arts from Simon Fraser University and Masters of Business Administration from the University of British Columbia.
