Coquitlam Lawyer: Prosecutor Disbarred for Withholding Evidence.
In a despicable case, a Dallas prosecutor has been disbarred from the Texas Legal Bar for withholding evidence from Criminal Defense Lawyers and therefore forcing two innocent people to endure prison for 14 years. In short, Richard E. “Rick” Jackson gave up his licsense to practice law once the State Bar concluded that he failed to inform Dennis Allen and Stanley Mozee's defense attorneys about evidence that could have cleared them at their capital murder trials in 2000.
Let me repeat that: a prosecutor withheld evidence which would have cleared two innocent people from capital murder.
The two innocent victims were ultimately cleared using DNA evidence after being released from prison five years earlier; they were released due to prosecutorial misconduct. Despite the DNA evidence and the disbarment, the prosecutor maintains “that he handed over the evidence to the defense and still believes that Allen and Mozee are guilty.”
Without the efforts of the Innocence Project and Criminal Defense Lawyers, to date, two individual would be suffering in prison for something they did not do.
