Class Action filed in BC against popular Sunscreen Brands- Neutrogena, Johnson & Johnson, etc.
Neutrogena Beach Defense Kids SPF 60 Spray — a sunscreen product that is being recalled by Johnson & Johnson. The company is also recalling Neutrogena Ultra Sheer children and adult sunscreen products after elevated levels of benzene were detected.
Recently, there was a CBC article that announced a national recall on popular sunscreen brands including those for kids. As noted in the article, Johnson & Johnson - the popular multinational conglomerate - has recalled the products for elevated levels of benzene which, as a result of long term exposure, can cause substantial health risks.
As noted in the Health Canada Advisory:
Product: Neutrogena Beach Defense and Ultra Sheer sunscreens, for adults and children, in aerosol spray format.
Issue: Johnson & Johnson Inc. is recalling all lots of Beach Defense and Ultra Sheer aerosol spray sunscreens due to elevated levels of benzene, which may pose serious health risks after long-term, repeated use.
What to do: Stop using the recalled products. Consult a health care professional if you have used any of these products and have health concerns. Continue using other sunscreen as directed on the product label.
